REPRODUCTION and

That first little newborn foal whinny never gets old!
From artificial insemination (fresh chilled and frozen), embryo transfer options and the first scan, it is all pretty exciting.
I prefer a best practice approach to pregnancy maintenance and monitoring especially for high risk mares.
It strikes me as odd that if human pregnancies have an examination every month to check the health of the pregnancy, then our mares should too!
I recommend the routine 15, 30 and 45 day scans, followed by a 60, 120 and 180 day scan then monthly as required. There is a lot to see in there and intervention is often more successful before any outward signs such as early mammary development or a discharge is noticed.
